Animal Bedding
For more than 60 years, P.J. Murphy has set the gold standard for animal bedding. P.J. Murphy believes in using only select natural hardwoods and replaces each felled tree with a newly planted tree! Importantly, no cedar or softwoods are used, since they have unhealthy organic compounds that can distress animals.
The process used to make Sani-Chips, its signature product, emphasizes the highest level of quality control. After sourcing the best wood, P.J. Murphy uses closed-van trailers to transport hardwoods from sawmills to their production facilities. At all times throughout the process, a closed system is maintained to avoid contamination.
Animal beddings are heat-treated and dried in rotary drums, lowering the moisture content to 8% (+/-2%) and killing harmful bacteria. The product is then conveyed by air through sifters and screeners to produce a final particle size. Then it is refined using additional, innovative and unique equipment to increase screening and aspirating further, resulting in a virtually dust-free product. Sani-Chips are also free of shavings, slivers, and foreign matter.
